From Books #7

“Being a woman is worse than being a farmer there is so much harvesting and crop spraying to be done: legs to be waxed, underarms shaved, eyebrows plucked, feet pumiced, skin exfoliated and moisturised, spots cleansed, roots dyed, eyelashes tinted, nails filed, cellulite massaged, stomach muscles exercised.

The whole performance is so highly tuned you only need to neglect it for a few days for the whole thing to go to seed. Sometimes I wonder what I would be like if left to revert to nature — with a full beard and handlebar moustache on each shin Dennis Healey eyebrows face a graveyard of dead skin cells spots erupting long curly fingernails like Struwelpeter blind as bat and stupid runt of species as no contact lenses flabby body flobbering around. Ugh ugh. Is it any wonder girls have no confidence?”

From Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding.

  1. lol that’s funny. reverting to nature does sound comforting and less work but it would we really enjoy being in that state really? heck no lol

  2. I was having a discussion with my friend like how she and girl others have to carry out so many activities that you mentioned frequently and so unavoidable.

Not until recently I used to believe all the looks of the beauties was wonderful and natural, having known that the reason behind accurate beauty is cosmetics and beauty techniques makes me feel how beautifying has become a necessary evil. And if not carried out how it might lead to a situation you questioned about.

    Nice writeup and great outlook.

  3. That is so true, you only have to not do it for a bit and get to a stage where you think.. good lord how did i get here and vow never to let go of yourself as much again.. Only of course to then fall off the wagon again, at least with me
