Internet Purpose

Morning! I just woke up and these mini-posts are for the fresh, post-sleep-before-coffee thoughts.

My dream is to build a large community here but I’m always thinking what is that community for? Is it for the sake of money? Do you want to reach out because it seems like it’s the trend these days? Is it because I feel that I have the urge to reach out because I have this unique, new thing to speak up about? That what I see in fashion is different let’s say from another person who lives in a metropolitan city; and how it shapes us daily in a different way through individual experiences and lifestyle? Is it because that I have, what I think, this new voice which I’m sure is an addition to the fashion game? Are you sure about that? and if so, what are the tools that you’ll use to reach out? Creating visual content, write, illustrate, make a video or a podcast? How would you establish that?

I want you to share your thoughts with me, bloggers, YouTubers, people who would like to reach the world through this small screen. Why are you reaching out using social media every day? What is your purpose?

  1. Wow, such a great post and question, beautiful! For me personally, I started blogging at the end of 2012 to showcase my everyday looks, since when I was in college, I would always get questions and comments from my fellow classmates and professors, which eventually inspired me. I was also simultaneously uploading videos to YouTube at the time. After having worked retail before, I started thinking one night about a common concern most of the women I’ve assisted had and it was dressing their individual bodies. I hadn’t received video or blog requests to discuss this issue, but figured if nearly allow the customers I worked with had this concern, surely my viewers and readers did, too. So, I decided to start a video series explaining how to determine your body shape, with suggestions on how to style it. I didn’t think I would get such a great, positive feedback and after that, I started receiving so many requests for video/blog topics on styling specific items and trends for the different body shapes. Eventually, it became the primary focus and heart behind my blog, which as been completely rebranded to touch upon this topic and all others that have to do with styling the individual; it’s been a year this month that I’ve changed the focus to discuss this topic. So now, my main goal is to help women feel confident in the bodies they’re in by providing suggestions on what I believe works and doesn’t for specific body shapes, heights, and skin tones. Kind of like that friend in the fitting room giving you feedback before you buy or leave the house before a night out :) Again, such a great post and question and one we should all keep in the forefront of our minds as creators! Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you’re having a great week so far!

    1. Wow I love when you comment like that Jalisa! I think we’re always in the rebrand mode when it strikes you that “oh I’m good at that, and apparently people love it too, so I’m gonna give much more of it” and it becomes your original thing! great that you find it this way and hope to continue on giving!

  2. This is such a motivating post and it made me wonder too. But I have always see blogging as a way of sharing my thoughts, photos and adventures to people out there. It was a way of making new friends, virtual friends actually. :) Hope to hear from you soon!
